"Because of the famine in Africa, the question of improvements in farming methods has become very actual."

Hello everyone,
In my opinion, there is a wrong word in the end of the sentence. Because the meaning of the word actual is something like real or true. Maybe the better sentences would be:
Because of the famine in Africa, the question of improvements in farming methods has become very topical/pressing.

well, let´s wait for other people what they come up with and then we´ll tell you :-)

Hello everyone.
I think that this phrase "improvements in" is wrong. Instead "in" I would use "of" or I would say the sentence without preposition.
In my opinion, the sentence should be: "Because of the famine in Africa, the question of farming methods improvements (or the question of improvement of farming methods) has become very actual".

Hello,

Andrea was right about the word "actual". Students often think that this words means the same as "aktualni" in Czech but that is not the case.
Dana - I am sorry but there is no problem with the preposition, it is perfectly OK to say "improvements in".
OK, here´s another one for you:
"I want to buy that dress - Be sensible, dear. It´s too much expensive."

And another task for you - how many different meanings of "settle down" can you think of or find on the internet. The Oxford Phrasal Verbs dictionary lists four of them, all related in meaning but, nevertheless, different.
